In 1971 in Netherland the duo Mouth and MacNeil (Big Mouth (born Willem Duyn, March 31, 1937) and Maggie MacNeal (born Sjoukje van’t Spijker, May 5, 1950) came together. They recorded a few songs and were more popular in Europe, especially Germany, than they were in the United States. How Do You Do, released in 1972 was their biggest US hit, reaching as high as Number 8 in July. It’s reported that Willem Duyn died on December 4, 2004,

The Osmonds – Everyone’s Everything/Free

1971 may have been the biggest year for The Osmonds as a group, but in 1972 they were still one of the biggest acts around. Sure they may have had a young audience and didn’t draw the same type of crowds as The Who, Santana or Chicago, but they could rock. Here they are at the Ohio State Fair in August of 1972 doing Santana’s Everyone Everything and Chicago’s Free.

Three Dog Night – Joy To The World

During 1971 everyone was singing the opening line, “Jeremiah was a Bullfrog” of this song. Three Dog Night doesn’t get the acknowledgment today that they deserve. From 1969 until 1974 they were one of the most popular bands around.

They performed this song at both the 1971 and 1972 Grammy Awards ceremony. Not too many, if any, can hold that claim.

Set back and enjoy the words of Hoyt Axton with Chuck Negron belting them out.

Not sure where this video originally appeared, but it’s a nice version of one of the best songs from her great LP Tapestry.

Rock of the Seventies

For many people who will be turning 50 in 2008, such as myself, the music of the 1970’s is their music. While many of the younger generation live by YouTube, some of my generation hasn’t found it yet. But there is plenty of Rock from the 70s there.

The goal of this site is to discover hidden treasures of the 70s that are on YouTube and to put together some of my recollections of the music.

Set back and enjoy.
